Shared properties

Reuse one property across collections, with one name and unit everywhere.

Every property you add belongs to your account. By default it is local to one collection: two Number fields have separate identities, even if you give them the same name.

Share a property when it represents the same measure in several collections. Protein in Food and Protein in Smoothies can be the same shared property. A chart can then measure it across both collections, choosing Sum, Average, Min or Max in the chart.

Create or reuse a shared property

Open Add a property, scroll to Shared properties, and choose + New shared property. Choose a Type, enter a Name, and enter a Unit if the type is Number. Then choose Create. Page is not available as a shared type. Shared Tags use the global tag pool; Relation uses the usual relation setup.

In another collection, open the same picker and choose your property from Shared properties. This links the existing property instead of creating a copy.

Share a property you already have

Open its settings on the collection's Properties page, or in the view editor's Properties sidebar. Turn on Share with other collections. Its existing values and references keep the same identity.

The same editor shows Name, Unit for Number, Used in, visibility and defaults. Changing a shared name renames it in every collection that uses it. When more than one collection uses it, the editor shows how many will be renamed. Remove its other collection bindings before turning sharing off.

Properties added automatically by integrations may keep their integration-owned identity and a local display name.

Copying from the Library

A Library copy creates fresh properties in your account. Shared properties remain connected within that one copy, but never merge automatically with an existing property just because their names match.
