Log meals from a photo

5 steps · 5 min

Snap your plate, send it to your AI, and get a meal entry with your own fields filled in and the photo attached.

You will set up a collection for your meals and teach your AI how to fill it. After that, logging a meal is one photo and one sentence.

Create a Meals collection

Open Collections from the sidebar's rail and click New collection. Name it what you like and add the fields you care about, for example Calories and Protein (Number) and a Files & media property for the photo.

You can also copy a ready-made setup from the Library. See Creating a Collection.

Want ingredients too?

Add a Sub-entries property called Ingredients. Each ingredient is then its own entry with its own numbers, so a banana in a smoothie counts the same as a banana on its own. See Sub-entries.

Tell your AI the rules

Open AI from the sidebar's rail, pick the Skills tab and tap New skill. In plain words, say which collection to use, which amounts to record, whether to estimate missing values, and to add the photo to the entry.

You write this once. See Teaching your AI skills.

Make a /meal command (optional)

On the same AI page, pick the Slash commands tab and press + New command. Name it meal and write the instructions, for example "Log this as a meal in my Meals collection and add the photo to it."

A command does not pick a collection for you, so name it in the instructions. See Logging by chat.

Send the photo

In any AI chat, use the + button to upload a photo or take one on your phone. On the web you can also paste an image into the box. Several photos can go with one message.

Then say what you want, or start with /meal:

Log my lunch in my Meals collection and add the photo to it.

A photo on its own is not a request to log. Without words or a command, your AI only looks at it. See Logging food with AI.

Check or undo the result

The action below the answer shows what was saved. Open the entry to check its values, or use the action's revert control to undo it. Estimates should be marked as estimates, and you can edit any value afterward.
